Foundations of Interior Design

In addition to courses taught at colleges and institutes, Susan has a repertoire of presentations on design topics, available as customized seminars and programs for you and your organization. Presentations range from one-hour sessions to weekend intensive programs. PowerPoint presentations combine lively and insightful commentary with well-selected visual imagery. Programs are available as in–person deliveries or as online webinars.

Three programs are approved by the national review board (IDCEC) for continuing education credits for professionals who belong to ASID, IIDA, IDEC and IDC in the US and Canada.

Highlights of design styles from the antiquities to contemporary times are presented within the context of history, culture, events, important people, symbols, and meaning. Examples of modern interpretations guide and inspire designers to incorporate these ideas into new projects.

The Psychology of Color .2 CEU Credits, #101170
Color is powerful. Design decisions related to color are best made with scientific knowledge of the attributes of color. How perception of color directs human response in behavior, psychology, and emotion is explored. Both individual and cultural experience and identification are highlighted. As the meaning of color changes over time and place, future directions are also explored.

This survey covers the world of useful and decorative objects for the home, the world we call accessories. Susan covers why and what people collect and how best to group and display accessories.

See where inspiration is coming from in the world of fashion for the home. This visual journey explores color trends and as well as lifestyle directions and how they influence trends for interior design.

PATTERNS AND MOTIFS IN DESIGN
A rose is a rose is a rose, but is it? Shapes, symbols, patterns, motifs and themes tell stories. Learn about many of the motifs that have been used throughout history and what they mean.

HISTORICAL INSPIRATIONS FOR TODAY’S KITCHEN AND BATH DESIGN
Highlights from the classics to modern design are woven with lifestyle threads to views of contemporary style. The seminar culminates with her observations of current trends, among them Wabi-Sabi, Transparency and Nostalgia.
